Abstract:

Interviews document the life and work of Beverly Willis, FAIA, an American architect known for her work as a designer and an urban planner, a real estate developer, and a philanthropist. An in-depth interview with Willis and supplemental interviews with key professional associates document the career of this architectural pathbreaker and innovative thinker. Interviews focus on specific projects such as the Ballet Building in San Francisco and the Aliamanu housing development in Hawaii, as well as complex problems Willis solved through her innovative use of technology, materials, and strategic partnerships.
